Conference Grant: Stephanie Becker

Stephanie Becker received funding from the Graduate Student Professional Development in Composition and Writing Theory and Pedagogy travel fund to attend the Pop Culture Association/American Culture  Association conference in Boston, where she presented her research,  “Riot Grrrls Reinvented: Zine-making as a strategy for queer, feminist,  anti-consumerist re-appropriation for at-risk teenage girls.”

Conference Grant: Jennifer Lawson

Jennifer Lawson received funding from the Graduate Student Professional Development in Composition and Writing Theory and Pedagogy travel fund to attend the 2012 Conference on College Composition and Communication, where she attended research presentations on community literacy, institutional and professional training, teaching writing, and working with student veteran populations.

Conference Grant: Sarah Austin

I was very fortunate to receive grant funds from the English Department to present at a conference this past March. Below is a brief statement of my activities and use of the grant funds. Sarah Austin received funding from the Graduate Student Professional Development in Composition and Writing Theory and Pedagogy travel fund to attend the Women and Media 2012 Conference at Queen’s University in Belfast, Ireland.  The conference was held in March and Sarah presented her research, “Politics, Advertising and Feminism: Who Needs Sex? One Feminist Magazine Bypasses Traditional Advertising.”
